From William Bradford’s first hand account of the 1621 Thanksgiving story, I distilled the core events and principles learned from those events into flexible scripts for casts large and small, young and old, to suit multiple venues.
Teaching and learning history through drama is a powerful tool to engage students at every level and challenge them in developing core skills. The principles of true liberty and self-government lived out by our pilgrim ancestors laid the groundwork for our nation’s first governing document, The Mayflower Compact. These are vital lessons in American history that must be mastered by citizens today so we may properly steward that which was, by the grace of God, once delivered unto us.
This 100 plus page 8.5 x 11 resource is a compilation of those variations, designed for classroom instruction as an in-class read aloud (reader’s theatre) or stage play, produced as simple or fanciful as your budget of time and money can afford. It is packaged as a loose-leaf, three-hole-punched document, ready to load into your binder for ease of printing scripts and adding your own notes.
PRODUCTION NOTES and the sheet music to the central tune, The Ballad of Plimoth Plantation, are included. Additional music is suggested and readily available in traditional hymnals. Associated crafts, costuming, and stage design are also featured, plus additional reading recommendations.
